Getting There and Getting Around

North eastern Sardinia is served mainly by the port and airport of Olbia for Gallura and Nuoro.  Porto Torres ferry services, the Corsica ferry between Bonifacio and Santa Teresa di Gallura, and Alghero airport are also good entry points for the north of the island.

For Mandra Edera Alghero is the ideal arrival point, and Cagliari also feasible.

GETTING AROUND

Buses & Trains
Public transport links most towns and tourist areas, with extra services running during the summer.  Rural areas are generally poorly served by public transport.
For buses/coaches between urban areas there is the public ARST company, plus various private operators running between centres such as Olbia and Nuoro:
www.arst.sardegna.it

Summer buses run from the airports to the main tourist areas, for example from Olbia Airport and Isola Bianca to the Costa Smeralda, to Cannigione and down to Nuoro province and the east coast.  For timetable details on this service call Sunlines information:  348 260 9881
www.gruppoturmotravel.com

For buses from Olbia airport to the centre of the city, there is a regular bus service with tickets available onboard, from just outside the terminal building. It stops in the centre of Olbia, very close to both train and ARST bus stations. Local buses also run on the short trip from the Porto Turistico Isola Bianca ferry port to Olbia centre.

For trains see the service from FdS (arst) www.ferroviesardegna.it

Trenino Verde
A great way to see the interior of the island is via the Trenino Verde network of trains which wind their way along some of the island’s most scenic routes during the summer:
Mandas - Arbatax
Isili Sorgono
Macomer –Bosa
Nulvi – Tempio – Palau

As well as the towns there are small halts at various points along the route, making some of the more remote areas accessible.  For rural hotel accommodation served by a nearby trenino verde halt, see Rural Accommodation - Sant'Antonio di Gallura.
