  Valkarana Hotel Facilities & Accommodation

 

 

This independent, family-run hotel has only been open since April 2006 and combines fresh new rooms and facilities with a real enthusiam for Sardinian tradition.

Everything has been constructed around enjoying the views and open countryside, with numerous terraces and huge windows.  Guests can look out across the lake while having an aperitif or coffee in the hotel bar, or sitting out on the roof terrace.  The large restaurant also faces out across the mountains;  Valkarana's chef cooks both traditional Sardinian and more familiar Italian dishes, and his menus features the island's seasonal specialities such as asparagus or funghi, together with whichever fish is best that day in Palau's market. 

There is a peaceful swimming pool for guests, and the huge Diga Liscia lake likes at the bottom of the grounds;  it’s a private reservoir, accessible to the hotel and its guests who are able to fish in its still waters, or stroll around the edge in complete seclusion.

In the hotel courtyard the original stone farmhouse has been preserved, and its ancient fireplace is now used for porceddu - traditional Sardinian roasted pork - and other barbecues.  The traditional central stones where cooking pots were placed at the centre of the family group are still there, as is la strada, the old granite bench outside which was the traditional spot for post-mealtime conversations, debates and family discussions.

 

Hotel Facilities and Rooms

Bedrooms are all furnished with Sardinian woven fabrics and wrought iron, and have been positioned so every room benefits from views of the gardens, lake or mountains.  18 rooms and 2 suites all have air conditioning, satellite TV, minibar and direct phones.

2 suites have large terraces, from which you can watch both sunrise and sunset.

Rooms in the Garden open onto the grounds;  guests can look directly out across the gardens or lake from their bed or patio.

Rooms in the main Hotel building have French windows out onto another terrace.
